Swimming pools and spas are permitted and inspected for compliance with state regulations. Inspections are performed in 26 cities, Dallas-Fort Worth airport and the unincorporated area. Typically two inspections are performed per pool or spa. Tarrant County Public Health has contracts to inspect public and semi-public swimming pools with the following cities: The current rules, 25 TAC, Chapter 265, Subchapter L, Standards for Swimming Pools and Spas went into effect on September 1, 2004 (except Section 265.190, which has an effective date of January 1, 2005.) The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act is a federal law that went into effect on December 19, 2008 and requires that “each public pool and spa in the United States shall be equipped with anti-entrapment devices".
