Confidentiality

All services and client information are confidential. Information will not be released without the client’s written consent.

Fees

Service fees are based on a sliding scale. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted. No one is refused service because of inability to pay.

HIV Counseling, Testing and Preventions Services

Tarrant County Public Health offers HIV and syphilis counseling and testing at two different clinics. These tests and the accompanied counseling are offered exclusively apart from the general screening offered at Adult Health Services. Remember, this offer does not include tests for the other STDs that can be transmitted the same way as HIV and syphilis. Confidentiality

As with other STD testing, all services / information will not be released without the client's written consent. Anonymous testing is offered for HIV only. Although all testing is confidential, with anonymous testing you will be assigned a fictitious name.

Deciding on whether to test for HIV or not can be difficult. Speaking to a counselor, anonymously over the phone, will help you make an informed decision.

Fees

For HIV testing there is a $10 fee. No one will be refused service because of inability to pay.

Test Results

You will need to return 1 to 2 weeks after your visit to receive your test results. Regardless of testing confidentially or anonymously every client is given a number that they are responsible for safeguarding. This number is used to confirm your identity and matching your result upon your return. A request to see other forms of identification will be asked for if the number assigned is lost or not available. However, if you test anonymously you must bring the number or results will not be given.

The results cannot be given over the phone.

HIV / STD Education

HIV / AIDS / STD risk reduction education is provided by a trained staff of epidemiology specialists and outreach workers to a group(s) or an agency on a one-time or ongoing basis. HIV counseling and testing can be offered in conjunction with education. Learning what your risks are for acquiring HIV, and other STDs, will help you make constructive changes in your behavior that will lower or eliminate those risks. A counselor will help you identify what those risks are and assist you developing skills that you can practice to change the behaviors that place you at risk.
