Nurse-Family Partnership

Tarrant County’s Nurse-Family Partnership:
Helping first-time mothers and their children

BACKGROUND:

The Nurse-Family Partnership is a voluntary evidence-based home visitation program where highly trained nurses visit low-income, first-time mothers during their pregnancy and throughout the first two years of their children’s lives.

 

Tarrant County’s Nurse-Family Partnership program has three goals:

  • Improve pregnancy outcomes by helping women engage in good preventive health practices, including obtaining thorough prenatal care from their health care providers, improving their diet, and reducing the use of cigarettes, alcohol and illegal substances;
  • Improve child health and development by helping parents provide more responsible and competent care for their children; and
  • Improve families’ economic self-sufficiency by helping parents develop a vision for their own future, plan future pregnancies, continue their education and find work.
